About Us
OUR PURPOSE: Hope in the City exists to glorify God by growing devoted followers of Christ in communities that advance His Kingdom in Austin and the nations.
What's unique about Hope in the City?
Someone asked me recently: "What makes your church different than the rest of the churches in Austin?" Hopefully, a quick browse of this site will give a feel of WHO WE REALLY ARE. That's our goal. We're not attempting to sell you on the merits of our church over the dozens of other life-giving churches in our city. We are actually similar to many other churches in this city.
1) We love exuberant, heart-felt worship in our corporate gatherings on Sunday mornings.
2) We have structured the majority of the ministry of our church around our small group discipling communities we call Hope Groups.
3) We are passionate about joining God in his heart for the world.
You'll find other churches in
this city with a similar heart for missions. What may be our uniqueness as a church is:
- We are focused on doing all 3 of these well - Corporate worship - Discipling Communities - Missions
- We are 7 years old. We launched in August of 2000 we are still a new church. Also, the majority of our congregation is under 30! (The large contingent of college students definitely drive down our median age.)
- We are growing. Since our start-up we have grown in membership with nearly 500 worshippers gathering on Sunday mornings. BUT we truly want to measure our success on the people and resources that we give away to fulfill one purpose God has for us starting new churches in Austin and the world!
- We want to start church planting movements. We are deeply committed to sending mission teams made up of people from our church to start churches (which start churches) both in the U.S. and other nations of the world where there are very few followers of Christ.
If you join us for one of our Sunday morning gatherings or attend one of our Hope Groups you will find us to be rather:
- Informal - We encourage people to come as they are.
- Expressive - The music will be loud, hands and voices will be raised in adoration of God, and there will be plenty of movement.
- Fun - Few would see us as religious, although we are serious about being devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
- Committed - To applying God's Word to our lives in a practical and life-giving way.
Check us out, both on this web site and in person.
