Update on 6-13-08:
Carly had her last surgery this week which involved applying a piece of bone from her hip to the involved L-6-8 vertebrae to stabilize that break in her back. She was fitted for a custom corset-type brace that covers her torso. This is required for any time upright for 3-6 months. This was the first time she sat up since the accident and was a big event and stress for Carly.. The nasal-gastric tube suctioning her gastric juices out was removed and her intestines appear to have "woken-up". She was given ice chips for the first time Thurs. night. Friday should bring liquid diet, hopefully. She still has monitors for vital signs, IV with self-medicating pain dispenser and catheter. She has a total of five incisions: two for back surgery, vertical incision on abdomen for intestines rupture repair, and two on left wrist area where two metal plates were inserted to stabilize the two broken bones in her arm. She has many bruises and abrasions and basically hurts to move or be touched anywhere. Carly has many high school friends stopping by who eagerly sign her visitor book. I expect her to remain in this intermediate care unit until she can eat, and be more mobile. There is a possibility after being in a regular room, she would then go to a rehab facility to learn how to get around with a broken back and arm. They are taking one day at a time and handling things well. Carly still can look good even with all the tubes and stitches. She loves her visitors, cards and stuffed animals which are a comfort to her. Cyndi and Randy are there during all times allowed which is the most comfort to Carly. Patti and I were there Monday through Thursday to support Cyndi in her role. Prayers are still appreciated to help the family get through this trauma. They recognize that "bones will heal" but are under emotional stress and appreciate the prayers from you and your prayer groups. Anna included the hospital address below for cards. She has all the cards taped to the wall where she can see them from laying flat on the bed. Susan

Update on 6-9-08:
Carly will be having another surgery on Tuesday at 12 noon for her back. They will be taking bone from her hip to stabilize 3 vertebrae in her lower back. Please pray that this goes well. Also pray for Cyndi, Randy & brother Conner, this is a lot for them to go through as well. Patti and Susan drove in and are with Cyndi tonight at the hospital and will stay with her in the hotel (Hilton Austin).

Please pray for our cousin Carly Brown. She was in a car wreck last night (6/8/08) and is at Brackenridge hospital in downtown Austin. Details about the wreck are not clear other than the car hit a tree. Carly doesn't remember the wreck and the girl who was driving is in a coma. Please pray for both girls! Carly had 2 surgeries this morning already to repair damage to her intestines and to reset and put pins in her broken arm. She also injured her back (L7), but has feeling in her feet which is a great sign.
Cyndi and Randy (her parents) have been with her at the hospital today (6/8/08) and Randy went home for a few minutes (to Wimberley 45 min away) to grab clothes so they could stay at the Hyatt hotel near the hospital. I imagine she will be at the hospital for several days. She just had her high school graduation last week. Please add Carly Brown to your church prayer lists. That's all I know.
Lord, please heal Carly and her friend and give them both a complete speedy
recovery.
