Providing for our Refugees in Austin
Hello HITC Family! "The Village Center" involves a group from Hope in the City who have partnered with other churches to minister to an apartment community whose resident population is made up of 80-85% refugees. We have families from Buhrma, Iraq, Cuba, Burundi, Somalia, and other war torn nations. We are also partnering with an organization called Refugee Service of Texas (RST). This group provides living accomodations and helps the new arrivals get a jump start to their lives in our country.
We are always looking for people who would like to volunteer their time to help us serve and bless this community. Another practical need involves items to help furnish the homes of our new friends. RST is given a budget for the new families and has a list of items that must be provided. This includes a couch, dining table, pots and pans, dishes, and other furnishings. They receive much of these items as donations and must purchase them if unavailable. To purchase them means that the families will be given less to help support themselves. If you have anything you would be willing to donate, anything helps; however they are stocked up on clothing at present. If you would like to get involved or make a donation, please email David Allen, daveka73@aol.com or Bethany Allen, bellaitaliano82@yahoo.com. RST has a person who can come to your home on Mondays to pick up donated furnishings. Thank you and God bless.
