HELP for all Nations is doing outreaches to the Guadalupe Street in Austin every day of the week. In the afternoon minister to young homeless people, drug addicts, travellers and other people in need. If you would like to become a volunteer and to help us out you could do so on wednesday afternoons. No matter if you join us only for one time or on a regular basis. Mission Statement:
Austin LifeCare (ALC) was founded in 1984 with the vision of serving the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of women and families who are facing an unplanned pregnancy. Since that time, ALC has grown to include an influential abstinence education program which teaches in the schools throughout the Austin area, as well as an After Abortion Care Program offering support and information to those who have been affected by abortion.

Austin LifeCare is a Christian faith based non-profit organization dedicated to providing compassionate and trustworthy service to the Austin community. ALC seeks to promote positive solutions to the challenges surrounding unplanned pregnancies through prevention, intervention, and restoration.

Volunteer Opportunities: Counseling young women with unplanned pregnancies, mentoring, and promoting abstinence in high school students.

Mission Statement: Caritas of Austin assists with basic needs in times of crisis. Caritas of Austin envisions a community of hope, respect and self-reliance.

Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteer Open House will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at Caritas on 611 Neches Street. This includes working with the soup kitchen, food drive, and seasonal volunteer opportunities.

Mission Statement: Connect the Body of Christ to serve urban communities to empower individuals through spiritual, social and economic programs for the glory of God. Volunteer Opportunities: Has two ongoing ministries to people who are living on the street, Church Under the Bridge and the Tuesday Night Fellowship at NYACC.

“Church Under the Bridge” is a combined effort of churches from all over the Austin area serving the homeless. Volunteers at Church Under the Bridge tangibly demonstrate the love of God to the people living on our streets through the provision of hot meals, clothing, blankets and sleeping bags. Church Under the Bridge now meets every Sunday morning at 7th Street and IH-35 across from the police station. Services are provided in Spanish and English (10 a.m. & 11:15 a.m.). This ministry started in 1991 with 40 in attendance and now as many as 350 attend regularly.

Mission Statement: Front Steps, based on the belief that all people deserve the dignity of a safe place to call home, seeks to end homelessness by providing shelter, affordable housing and community education.

Volunteer Opportunities: You can volunteer through the website. Positions include computer lab staff/tutor, men’s clothing closet, woman’s clothing closet, obtaining donations, sorting donations, kitchen volunteer, administrative work, cold weather shelters, ARCH front desk support, intake and referral specialist.

Vincare

Mission Statement: Serves homeless women and children and homeless youth in Austin. The Outreach to Street Youth Program serves homeless street youth between the ages of 12 and 22 in collaboration with university-area churches and Lifeworks. St. Louise House serves homeless families with children in a unique transitional housing program that has on-site supportive services. The apartment style design of St. Louise House promotes independent living while encouraging community participation.

Volunteer Opportunities: St. Louise House: child care volunteers, special project volunteers (preparing meals for resident meetings or holidays), donations organization. Contact lberry@vincare.org.

Outreach to Street Youth (OSY): Each Thursday, VinCare volunteers gather to prepare and serve meals to youth living on the streets around the University of Texas area. During winter, volunteers assist with the cold weather shelter. Contact Karen Rankin.


Trinity Center

Mission Statement: Trinity Center is a faith-based organization conducting programs that improve the spiritual, mental, and physical well-being of the poor and homeless in inner-city Austin.

Volunteer Opportunities:
Weekdays:
Woman to woman. Mondays 9am-12:30pm (Provide devotional, breakfast, fellowship, and clothing closet “shopping” to women.
Breakfast. Wednesday- Friday. 9:15-11:30am. (Prepare and serve breakfast-no cooking, make coffee, clean the kitchen).
Daily Services/Front Desk. Wednesday – Friday. 9:30am-2:00pm (Greet neighbors and assist them with obtaining identification cards, birth certificates, information, and referrals for social services, phone calls, and reading glasses; visit with neighbors, make coffee, and provide emotional support.

Spiritual Activities: Lead spiritual activities such as Bible study, devotionals, prayer, writing, reading, music, or art.

Saturdays:
Trinity Center Bridge. 2 Saturdays per month 9am-noon. Share recreational times, arts and crafts activities, and lunch with families from the Salvation Army shelter.

Sundays:
Trinity Streets. 1:45-4:30pm. Prepare and serve the meal, set up and clean up the space for worship and dining, provide music for the service.


United University Methodist Church

They have an outreach to the poor every Sat. morning from 10am to 12pm in their cafeteria. Basically, you arrive at 10am, go to the back kitchen, make a bunch of p.b.and j. sandwich plates. Then you distribute them at 11am to whomever comes in. It’s usually a good crowd.

One can also volunteer at their Fig Leaf clothing store. The Fig Leaf is located on the third floor of UUMC and is a great place for the poor to get free clothing. The volunteer opportunities here involves sorting and processing clothing that is donated and organizing the clothing area. This is also on Sat. mornings.


Sidewalk Sunday School through Glad Tidings

They hold Sunday School one Saturday a month at various locations around Austin via volunteers and a Sidewalk Sunday School van.
